Before COVID-19 primary strategies of hotels were to create guest satisfaction, brand loyalty and revenue. In theory this won’t change but hoteliers and hotel owners are going to have to deal with post COVID-19 tech-enabled guests who will most definitely have health related expectations.

Arrival and Check-in

Guests most likely will expect keyless, contactless check-in and checkout with almost zero physical interactions and contact points. It is very likely that post COVID-19 travellers are going to want to simply book their room via mobile device, walk into the hotel, check-in via kiosk self-checkin, then pay with the addition of automated payment methods, receive the key, find the room and enter their room, all without having to contact with receptionists. At time of check-out the same principle to avoid the need to hand over any cash or credit cards at the front desk. 

How does self-service check-in at the hotel work?

The beginning is the same as traditional hotel– the guest creates a reservation. The reservation is created in the PMS and the guest is assigned a room. The reservation of a guest and the room then be processed by a self-service reception. Part of the reservation processing and notification is optionally the generation of:

  • QR code for quick check-in at the kiosk
  • Access PIN for guest entry into the hotel

How the guest check-in via kiosk?

  1. Enters the access PIN, uses the QR code to confirm their reservation
  2. Selects the language and logs in to his reservation
  3. Scans identity documents(eKYC solution) and confirms agreement with the hotel
  4. Make a payment by card or QR code according to the kiosk model (if guests have already paid in advance, payment is not required)
  5. The guest will receive a hotel key or hotel card for the rooms in the reservation (locker system)

How the guest check-out via kiosk?

  1. The guest selects the “Check-out” button on the kiosk’s screen and selects the language version
  2.  The guest will return his hotel card or key
  3. The guest pays the bill for extra service according to PMS ( lost cards, minibar, services charged to the room, etc.)
  4. Takes a receipt for payment and may leave
